24’’ x 36’’ acrylic on canvas. By June 2022, the Celtics were in the NBA Finals and I was feeling pretty confident about my painting skills. I decided to tackle a real life person - not a fantasy character as I had done with the Star Wars paintings - and try to do my favorite NBA player (and defensive player of the year) Marcus Smart justice. I used the mix of my two techniques - small-brush realism and big-ass palette knife strokes (the flames). I’m really pleased with how this one came out and will probably do a few more sports paintings in 2023.
